Save on a high-efficiency heat pump and furnace combination
Dual fuel technology combines the efficient heating and cooling performance that you get from a heat pump with the consistent heating capacity of a gas furnace. In summer, the heat pump works like a high-efficiency central air conditioner. In spring, fall and winter it provides cost-effective and efficient heating, while the gas furnace takes over only when needed during the coldest months of the year.

Ensure the home qualifies:
- Must be an existing home, not new construction.
- Multifamily homes up to 3 units per foundation qualify. For individually owned/owner-occupied high-rise units, please contact program staff for approval. See Multifamily Program for more information.
- The previous primary system must have been a permanently installed natural gas or propane ducted system that served at least 80% of the home’s conditioned living space.
- Oil, wood heating, and pellet stove conversions do not qualify.
Requirements for dual fuel heat pump electric & gas conversion
- Dual fuel heat pump with 90 AFUE gas furnace must be a minimum 9 HSPF and 15 SEER.
- Dual fuel heat pump with 80 AFUE gas furnace must be a minimum 10 HSPF and 16 SEER.
- Work must be completed by a Program-eligible HVAC Contractor listed on the Program-Eligible HVAC Contractor List.
- Dual fuel heat pump must be installed according to the specifications outlined in the Utah Technical Specifications Manual.
- New dual fuel heat pump must be the current primary heat source and must service at least 80% of the home’s conditioned living space.
- Dual fuel heat pump must be a new, air-source split or packaged unitary heat pump with an AHRI (Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute) Standard Rating Cooling Capacity of 65,000 BTU/hr (5.4 tons) or less.
- Heat pump must be listed on the AHRI Certified Directory
Additional program rules:
- Submit all documents so they are received within 180 days of the qualifying service completion.
- Homes are eligible for one unit. If a customer is applying for two units or more, please contact the program before applying as additional information is required.
- If applying for a multifamily property (up to 3 units per foundation), please submit one application per unit. For individually owned/owner-occupied high-rise units, please contact program staff for approval. See our custom Multifamily Program for more information.
Required documents:
- Dual Fuel Pump Application, completed and submitted
- Itemized receipt or contractor invoice
- AHRI certificate
- Third Party Payment Addendum for applicants who would like to forward payment to a third party not listed on the utility account.
Rebates are associated with the most recent tariff filing approved by the Utah Public Service Commission. All rebates are subject to change with 45 days’ notice. Additional terms and conditions may apply.
Customer eligibility
Residential electric customers residing in the state of Utah who purchase their electricity from Rocky Mountain Power on rate schedules 1, 2, or 3 qualify. Landlords who own rental properties served by the company in the state of Utah where the tenant is billed on rate schedules 1, 2 or 3 also qualify for this program. You can locate your rate schedule on your bill or by calling 1-888-221-7070.
Application details
Prior to starting a project, find and contact a participating heating and cooling contractor. Note that some rebates require a qualified contractor to install your new equipment. Review the eligibility requirements, rebate qualifications and the list of required documents with your contractor before submitting your rebate application. Equipment and service work may be inspected for compliance
Please include the following with your online application:
- Your Rocky Mountain Power account number.
- Digital image of your itemized receipt or contractor’s invoice.
Important details:
- Complete and submit your online application within 180 days of installation.
- Your rebate will be issued within 14 business days after we review and approve your application. Missing information may delay processing and delivery.
